Club Open Day - Sat 11th Sept 2010

Never played hockey but want to give it a go?

Leeds Hockey Club (LHC) are holding a free open day on Sat 11th Sept at the University of Leeds sports ground in Weetwood near Headingley.

The open day is designed to give potential new players a taster of what it's like to play hockey at the premier family club in Leeds. There will be free coaching sessions for adults and juniors, plus a range of fun activities throughout the day.

With the England Men's and Women's teams both enjoying recent success in world hockey and building toward the 2012 Olympics, this is a great time to get into this exciting and fast-paced sport.

Triple Olympian Simon Mason (GB and England Hockey goal keeper with 197 caps, President of England Hockey and University of Leeds Alumnus) will be visiting to officially open an improved water-based hockey pitch at Weetwood and will also be delivering a goal keeping master class session.

All ages and abilities are welcome from complete beginners to former players. What's more, it's completely free and all hockey equipment will be provided, so why not come along and give it a try?

Date:
Saturday 11th September
Time: 11am - 5pm
Venue: University of Leeds Sports Ground, Weetwood, Leeds, LS16 5AU (just off the ring road)
Cost: Hockey is free of charge (BBQ, refreshments, cross bar challenge and balloon release are all extra)

Timetable for the day:

  • Adult beginner coaching session (11am – 12pm)
  • Junior coaching session (12pm – 1pm)
  • Quick sticks coaching session for 5 to 6 year olds (12pm – 1pm)
  • Goalkeeper coaching master class from Simon Mason (12pm – 1.30pm)
  • Cross bar challenge with prizes (1pm)
  • Leeds Women's 1st XI vs. University of Leeds Women's 1st XI (1.30pm - 2.30pm)
  • Junior match (2.30pm – 3pm)
  • Balloon race release with prizes (3pm)
  • Leeds Men’s 1st XI vs. University of Leeds Men’s 1st XI (3.15pm – 4.15pm)

Refreshments will be available all day from the Stand Bar and there will be a BBQ at lunchtime. We are also hoping to have bouncy castle available for kids and big kids! The LHC shop stall will be open all day for the purchase of new club kit. Please bring your cheque book if you want to order any kit!

If you are already a playing member, why not invite a friend or work colleague to come down for the day? If they enjoy hockey and end up joining the club, this will be a massive help with recruitment at all levels.
