FAQs
Who is the course suitable for?
The course is designed for both complete beginners and players who may have some previous
experience, but who have not played hockey for a few years. The sessions are suitable for all ages
from 14 and above. There is no upper age limit.
If you are younger than 14, we have dedicated junior training sessions available that will be more suitable.
Do I need to be fit to take part?
No. There is no expectation that you will be fit. Your coaches will take into account your level of fitness
when planning and delivering each session. The activities you take part in during the session may help you
improve your fitness over time.
When does the course take place?
Every Wednesday evening, from 2nd May.
What time does the course take place?
From 7pm-8pm. Try to arrive a few minutes early if possible, but don't worry at all if you are late!
Where does the course take place?
All of the sessions will take place on the modern astroturf pitches at Leeds University, on the Weetwood Ring Road
in Leeds (LS16 5AU). This is at the top of the Otley Road coming out of Headingley. Get directions
Weetwood is a busy sports centre and hotel, but there is lots of parking available in the Weetwood Hotel car park
plus plenty of spaces in the overflow car park.
There are changing rooms and showers available in the cricket pavillion, which is very close to the hockey pitches.
How much does it cost?
The charge is just £3.50 per session. You do not need to commit anything upfront, just pay for each session that
you attend. Payment should be made directly to Hugh at each session.
What do I need to wear?
Please just wear whatever you will be comfortable playing hockey in, recognising that you will be stretching
and exercising. For footwear wear standard trainers, or astro turf boots if you have a pair.
We can still play hockey in the rain, so please bring waterproofs if the British summer is misbehaving!
What else do I need to bring?
We will provide hockey sticks and shin pads, but feel free to bring your own if you have them. We recommend
that you bring your own drinks (squash, water etc.) with you for the breaks during the session itself and for afterwards.
Can I come on my own?
Yes of course. However individuals or groups of friends are all welcome. We have a flyer you can use to share details of the
course with your friends.

Lewis is the Director of Coaching at Leeds Hockey Club and is coordinating the Get Back Into sessions. He would
like to know the numbers of players attending each week so he can plan the sessions accordingly with Hugh.
Don't worry - if you are not able to email the form before a session starts, please just print this off and bring it
along on the night.
Do I need to attend every session of the course?
The course is designed so that you will get back into hockey gradually over the summer.
However there is no requirement to attend every session. You can also join the course at any time!
