This week the Men's 2's faced Chapeltown in Yorkshire Div 1 who they had already previously beaten twice this season - once in the league and once in the cup. With last weeks disappointing draw in their mind, 3 points were all they were after!
Full match report by Philip Stubley

PS - For the record, last week the Men's 2s earned a 2-2 draw with Doncaster, with goals from Rob 'I should've been striking short corners' Anderson and Phil 'I've finally broken my drought' Stubley.

Glenn Hayes this week got the name of yet another débutante player correct (Ed our new keeper) and began dishing out his usual instructions before the game. He also finished off the joke that he began the week before, maybe he should've not bothered to finish it off as the punch line did not deliver any laughs. Leeds knew they were up against an 'old' Chapeltown team who were well organised. The beginning of the game was quite frantic for Leeds as Tim Cobb was adjusting to playing centre back with Spuddy dropping into centre midfield. This gave Chapeltown a strong period of possession and pressure .But with Ollie 'whinger' Lumley and Mal 'I scream like a girl' Roger's patrolling well as full backs they ensured that the ball was released down the lines as quick as possible and force possession back down the other end.. Leeds then began to take control of the game. Tim Cobb beginning to boss the defence with a reliable back up in Christian Hirst (spelt with an I Glenn not a U!) ensuring possession was retained. Not much else happened in the first half so I won't pretend to make anything up.

Leeds came out for the second half positive and gagging to get on the score sheet. But to their surprise Chapeltown took the lead. An attacking forayfrom their right back who waltzed past Christian to cross into the D for Chapeltown's oldest player (at least 90) to get on the end of a tap in after a goal mouth mele. Leeds were embarrassed but not deterred. The 5 forwards were continuing their rotations keeping Chapeltown's 'old guard' on the move all the time. Post up's and roll outs were working well for the inside forwards with Dogger, Steve Grimwade working well at times. The most penetrative ones were through to the forwards though, Mal Rogers sent the ball down the left side for Phil Stubley to post up and pick the ball up, rolling out towards the D Phil then drove the ball hard at the post for Ben Lumley to get a deflection onto it and watch the ball fly into the top corner. A superb deflection from a superb ball.

Leeds had their tails up and continued to pile on the pressure. This time a foray down the right set up by Ollie Lumley led to a cross in to Mark Hallet who flicked the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal before anyone could react. 2-1 up and Leeds wanted more, Coach Hayes was screaming at the team to 'Calm down' and slow it all down but he couldn't stay calm when a ball rolled through to débutante Ed who hadn't touched the ball all game. Ed should have let it roll off the back line for a 16 yard hit but decided to kick it off the side of the pitch to give Chapeltown possession back, Glenn was panicing 'Don't kick it, don't kick it, don't kick it!!' everyone else just laughed.

Another attack down the left to Phil Stubley this time with no roll out as he had time and space to cross, he topped the ball over the oncoming defender with Brad Bates on hand to then slice a shot towards the keeper who could only glove in to the far post! A poor mis-hit from a poor cross! 3-1 and the game was won. Leeds almost scored with the last touch of the ball (for the third game in a row) when Brad Bates provided the cross from the left only for it to be inches away from Phil Stubley's sprawling deflection attempt. Leeds finished on a high and took 3 points to take them back into 4th place in the league.

Points of note: Inspirational substituting from Jaspal 'I used to play National League' Panesar for attempting to sub both Ben and Mark seconds before they scored. Steve Grimwade and Chris Burnage did play!

MOM – Ben Lumley (great finish)
DOD- Glenn 'Big Bush' Hayes – That joke!
