Leeds Hockey Club (LHC) are a long established club with a successful history in Yorkshire and North hockey and are now the strongest club in Yorkshire and amongst the top few clubs in the North.
LHC run eight male and seven female teams. The Men’s 1XI team play in the EHL Conference North and the Women’s 1XI team have just secured promotion to the EHL National Division 1 for 2022/23 season.
There is also a large and successful Junior section with training and match play being offered from Under 7’s up to Under 16 and we offer development opportunities for Juniors to transition into the senior sides at the most appropriate level. There are 15 Junior sides competing in local and regional tournaments.
For the past few years, LHC have worked in partnership with University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University to create a bigger and stronger club. This has widened the range of club members and LHC have recognised this and offered a hockey programme for all skill levels with coaching offered for all teams which we believe is unique in the North.
Men’s 1XI Team Coach
The role LHC is recruiting for is as Men’s Performance Coach. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for the Men’s 1XI team but also liaise with the coaches of the Men’s 2XI and 3XI teams who will both be playing in the Yorkshire and North East Premier in 2022-23.
The coach will manage the Men’s 1XI team from the start of pre-season training through to the league programme with responsibility for team selection and player recruitment. This gives the right person the opportunity to also work with the two universities to ensure that all players get the right experience and opportunity.
The 1XI team squad will have circa 5-6 weeks of pre-season training and matches followed by twice weekly training sessions.
The role will suit someone who is a fully qualified coach with previous experience of coaching at National League level or Regional Premier league. The successful individual will be conversant with current coaching methods and have a very good understanding of individual and team tactics. They will also be able to be able to communicate to all levels and ages of players as the role will be to manage the Men’s 1XI team but also have an eye on the potential future players who may be elsewhere in the Junior or Senior sections of the club.
The coach will also need to be a good organiser to manage the programme from August through to April and offer a great experience for all those players involved. The role will suit someone who can deliver an exceptional coaching experience and can work on their own initiative but be aware of the wider requirements of LHC.
There are also opportunities for the right individual to get involved with the Juniors and help develop a programme that will make the transition from Junior to Senior hockey smoother. The Junior programme has been headed up by the outgoing Men’s 1XI team coach and it has proved to be a successful model.
