Reading Hockey Club – 5 v 0 – Leeds Hockey Club

Leeds started the game brightly and forced the Reading GK into a number of saves. Reading’s first goal came midway through the first half – a well executed short corner. Leeds continued to press and attack and whilst having plenty of possession in the final third, were unable to convert this into real clear-cut opportunities. Reading struck a second with another short corner right on the stroke of half time.

Going into the second half, Leeds were still in the game and the third goal would prove to the vital. Leeds again had a couple of chances but it wasn’t to be. Reading broke and scored their third of the afternoon. Leeds continued to push forward in search of a consolation goal, leaving gaps for Reading who took their chances well.

The final score of 5-0 felt harsh on the day, although Reading were strong and deserving of the victory.

Coach David Brereton said “It’s been a great Cup run that was welcomed by players and parents alike — we’ve had a few easier matches, we’ve edged a few absolute crackers but this one was just a stretch too far for our young team. We go again next season with some good experience to take forward.”
