With the whole of the club having their Saturday fixtures called off due to frozen pitches, the Men's 8XI were the only team playing, flying the flag for the club on their away trip to Driffield. The 8XI were hoping to build on their previous two matches which they had won whilst scoring fourteen goals and only conceding two goals.
Leeds did not start the game as they hoped as Driffield scored three quick goals all on the counter within the first ten minutes. Disaster struck for Leeds as the 8XI goal scoring machine Toby Green was green carded for not stopping after the whistle had been blown. Once Toby was back on the pitch, once again the umpire had deemed he had been too physical against a Driffield player where he was initially green carded which was upgraded to a yellow card for arguing, not the usual hatrick the 8XI have come to expect from Toby.
The only consolation of the first half for Leeds was the build up by Leeds which led to a great team goal which was scored by Abdul Siddiq to make the score 3-1. Driffield scored once again off another counter attack to make it 4-1 at the end of the first half.
After discussion between the Leeds defence and the Driffield umpire about the safety of the pitch, seeing the Leeds defence overruled by the umpire, the second half started. Not long into the second half, Driffield got their 5th of the game once again scoring on the counter. Shortly after after the 41st minute, the game was abandoned due to the pitch being unsafe as a result of the icy conditions which had hit most of Yorkshire Hockey matches. With only 58% of the game played, the only highlight of the trip for Leeds was the Lasagne and meatballs provided by Driffield for teas.
