v Driffield 3XI (15/02/02020)

Leeds 8XI went into their first game of the weekend hoping Storm Dennis wouldn't be to much of a menace for their second trip to Driffield of the season, after their first trip was called off after 41 minutes due to a frozen pitch.

Both teams started off with attacking intent, however disaster struck for Leeds with captain Chris Devine sustaining a broken finger after four minutes when his hand got in between two sticks whilst challenging a Driffield player. Despite this setback, Leeds carried on and took the lead after some good build up play which resulted in Matthew Rooney scoring for the second game in a row from a tap in on the post.

Driffield responded by putting pressure on Leeds but due to some good saves from keeper Jon Jackson and some outstanding blocks from Phil Price, Driffield were left trying to get a goal. Driffield got their equaliser when a free attacker took their chance on goal.

Both teams started the second half by chasing to get a second goal, Leeds struck first when Lewis Francis was able to get a touch off a pass by Oli Graham from the top of the Driffield D after dribbling past the defence.

Driffield tried to put pressure on Leeds, but Leeds were able to withstand their attack with some great defensive work from the defence. However much to Driffield's frustration Leeds were able to increase this lead as Ewan Clarke scored twice through two 1 on 1s.

Leeds made the game 5-1 after Nick Foxall scored from a well taken zig zag penalty corner paid off that confused the Driffield defence which left Nick free to score.

Captain Chris Devine said "The boys played brilliantly today, great build up play for the goals and fantastic result here especially after the first game here earlier on in the season."

v City of York 8XI (16/02/2020)

Leeds 8XI made the short journey to York hoping to gain another result following their 5-1 against Driffield the previous day, knowing they were in for a tough against unbeaten top of the table.

York started off with attacking intent hoping to break Leeds down early. However, Leeds had different ideas as through a strong defensive effort and outstanding defending on short corners. This defensive effort resulted in making York working hard and not get anything from it as it was 0-0 at half time.

Leeds started the second half positively where a cheeky aerial from Alex Makin found Oli Graham but York defended strongly against a rare Leeds attack.

York got the first goal of the game through a counter attack that had threatened Leeds for so long. Leeds didn’t let this set back get to them and reacted positively by pressing forward to find an equaliser.

Leeds began to find chances and were unlucky to not, score on a few occasions. Knowing the clock was ticking, stand in coach Chris Devine changed the formation to a 3-5-2  in order to put pressure on York. This change resulted in more attacking play where multiple penalty corners were awarded but with no goal.

The hard work paid off when Lewis Francis was able to score with a last minute equaliser from a penalty corner to make it 1-1. However by the time York got the ball back to the halfway line, the umpires blew for full time.

Captain Chris Devine said: “Yet another great team performance, defensively it was the best performance of the season and everyone put a shift in until the end to get a deserved equaliser.”
