Following a series of discussions and meetings with the Women’s section captains and the LHC committee it is with regret that a decision has been made to disband the Women’s 6XI team with immediate effect.
This has been a very difficult decision which has not been taken lightly. It not only impacts the players of the 6XI but also the club. As Club Captains, we did everything in our power to find a solution, but it has been decided this is the best way forward for the club.
After reviewing where teams sit in their leagues and to support player development and participation across the Women’s section, it was decided to disband a team to allow players to move upwards and have the Women 6XI and 7XI combine to form a stable team.
The decision to disband the 6XI is the result of an availability issue that has been present throughout the Women’s section of the club. Regularly throughout the first half of the season we have been sending our development and social teams away with the bare minimum to play a game. It is not sustainable for this to continue, and this led us to action.
The club hope that by doing this, it will reduce the burden on captains to ensure there are enough players each week to fulfil fixtures, but also to continue and maintain players enjoyment and development for this sport and our club.
We have approached the league and this has resulted in the 6XI results being expunged.
Over the next week, Sarah Wood will be in contact with players who have been playing in the 6XI, to discuss movement to the other teams.
We understand there may be some disruption to teams for the next few weeks, but we will try to minimise the impact on players as best as we can.
